Kolkata, July 31 -- A political controversy erupted in Baduria of North 24-Parganas after photographs and videos purportedly showing two BJP leaders seated in front of bundles of cash surfaced on social media, prompting the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to allege that "the corruption BJP promised to end is now running rampant."
The viral visuals allegedly showed Basirhat district BJP members Biswajit Pal and Sanjay Ghosh seated in front of stacks of cash. A local Trinamool leader, Samir Mondal, was also reportedly present in the room. However, the authenticity of the photographs and videos has not been independently verified.
The incident has triggered a political storm in the district, with a section of BJP leaders themselves reportedly raising questions over the alleged financial transactions. Local allegations suggest that a former chit fund office in Baduria is currently functioning as a BJP office and that money was allegedly being collected there in the name of facilitating various works through political influence.
Reacting to the controversy, Biswajit Pal acknowledged having seen the viral image but declined to comment further, saying the matter would be addressed internally by the party.
Launching a fresh attack on the BJP, the TMC alleged that the ruling party's leaders were collecting money in different districts and alleged: "It hasn't even been a year, yet the mask has already slipped," adding that the BJP's "true colours have already been exposed."
