Lucknow, Oct. 13 -- Citizens who help road accident victims and ensure their timely transportation to hospitals in Uttar Pradesh will be rewarded under the Rahveer Yojana. The Central Government has provided Rs.10 lakh to the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department to reward Rahveers under the scheme.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, communicated this through a letter issued on September 21, 2026. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this is an important step towards strengthening road safety in the state and encouraging citizens who come forward to help the injured in times of need.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways launched a scheme to reward Good Samaritans on October 3, 2021. Under the first financial cycle, 36 Good Samaritans were awarded Rs.5,000 each. Subsequently, on April 21, 2025, the Ministry continued the scheme under a new name, the 'Rahveer Yojana'. The reward amount was increased to Rs.25,000 per Rahveer. The Ministry has directed that the scheme continue during the 16th financial cycle as well. Accordingly, Rs.10 lakh has been provided to Uttar Pradesh for the distribution of rewards through the Ministry's letter dated September 21, 2026.

According to the Transport Department, a proposal has been prepared to award Rs.25,000 each to 27 Rahveers in Uttar Pradesh. The proposals have been drawn up on the recommendations of the District Road Safety Committees.

In September 2026, the state had requested the Central Government to provide funds to reward these Rahveers. The release of Rs.10 lakh by the Ministry will now help advance the reward distribution process.

The Rahveer Yojana aims to honour citizens who help seriously injured road accident victims reach hospitals in time and contribute to saving their lives. Receiving medical assistance during the initial period following an accident is extremely important.

The scheme seeks to encourage people who selflessly help the injured by providing them with financial rewards. Under the scheme, eligible citizens who help transport accident victims to hospitals and facilitate medical assistance within the golden hour, the crucial first hour after an accident, are rewarded. This can motivate more people to come forward and help road accident victims.

An amount of Rs.10 lakh has been released to the e-Kuber Central Nodal Agency (CNA) account of the Transport Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh, maintained with the Reserve Bank of India, for disbursing rewards to Rahveers. This arrangement will facilitate the completion of the process of transferring the approved reward amounts to eligible beneficiaries.
