Cooch Behar, April 20 -- Tensions escalated in the Natabari Assembly Constituency after a BJP leader alleged that his residence was targeted in a bomb attack, even as police recovered multiple crude explosives from different parts of the district.
According to reports, the house of BJP Mandal Committee member Kaushik Das in the Natabari-II zone under Tufanganj Police Station limits was allegedly attacked with a crude bomb. Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and recovered an unexploded bomb. An investigation has been initiated to identify those responsible.
Kaushik Das alleged that he has been facing continuous harassment since 2018 due to his association with the BJP and claimed that Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers were behind the attack.
However, TMC Zonal President Gautam Sarkar denied the allegations, stating that the party had no involvement in the incident. He instead attributed the episode to internal factionalism within the BJP.
Meanwhile, police have intensified operations across the district. Over the past two days, a special drive by Cooch Behar Kotwali police led to the recovery of 18 crude bombs from different locations.
Police sources said one person, identified as 22-year-old Jumman Rajbhar, has been arrested for allegedly planting a bomb in the Pani village area under Kotwali police station. Additionally, 17 crude bombs were recovered during a raid in the Fasirghat area on Sunday night.
Investigations are underway to trace the source of the explosives and those involved.
