Malda, Sept. 29 -- A teacher was arrested on Tuesday following an allegation of molesting a Class IX student while she was on her way to attend private tuition in the Malda district on Monday evening. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
According to the student's family, the girl studies in Class IX at a local school. On Monday evening, she was cycling to her private tutor's residence. While she was leaving her bicycle in a narrow lane, the accused teacher allegedly arrived there on a motorcycle.
As the bicycle was obstructing his passage, he reportedly asked the girl to move it.
An argument allegedly broke out between the two. The teacher is accused of getting off his motorcycle, confronting the girl and allegedly touching her inappropriately. Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot, following which the situation was brought under control.
After returning home following her tuition, the girl reportedly informed her parents about the incident. Her family subsequently lodged a written complaint at the police station.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested the accused teacher from his residence on Tuesday morning. A case has been registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
