Kolkata, Sept. 13 -- The Election Commission, after hearing representatives of both the Mamata Banerjee-led and Ritabrata Banerjee-led TMC factions in Delhi on Saturday, has given the Mamata camp time till 3 pm on September 16 to submit any further response or documents on the party's control and election symbol dispute. The Commission said it may hold another hearing at 4 pm on September 17 if required, following which a final decision could be taken.
In its letter to Mamata, the Commission listed documents submitted by the Ritabrata camp, including a September 11 letter from Ritabrata, a September 12 email with copies of Alipore court orders dated July 7, August 3 and August 6, a letter from Chandrima Bhattacharya and a June 5 news report titled 'Trinamool reshaped by Mamata Banerjee'.
TMC MP Derek O'Brien subsequently wrote to the Commission seeking details of the documents submitted by the Ritabrata faction in support of its claim.
He also questioned why the updated party constitution was not available on the Commission's website.
