Kolkata, May 14 -- Women and Child Development Minister Agnimitra Paul, one of the key figures in the Suvendu Adhikari government, on Thursday said that the 'Swasthya Sathi' scheme of the previous Trinamool Congress government will gradually be merged with the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

"Swasthya Sathi scheme will continue now. The Ayushman Bharat scheme will be gradually integrated in this state from June 1. The reason for this is that there are various rules and laws, and the Ayushman Bharat scheme will be implemented in this state after considering all aspects. If something is done in a hurry, those who are beneficiaries of this scheme may face problems," Paul told reporters.

The Swasthya Sathi scheme should continue as it is running. This scheme will be gradually implemented in this state from June 1, she added further. Before coming to power, Subhendu Adhikari had promised to launch the Central government's health scheme Ayushman Bharat in Bengal if the BJP was voted to power.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of West Bengal a day after Chief Minister (CM) Subhendu Adhikari announced the launch of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state. In a social media post on last Tuesday, he said that the double-engine government will ensure that the benefits of important central schemes reach the people without any hitches.

After holding his first Cabinet meeting, Adhikari held a Press conference and stated that his government cleared the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Bengal.
