Kolkata, Nov. 4 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday reiterated his government's target of issuing appointment letters to 1 lakh youths by May 8, 2027, as he handed over appointment letters to newly recruited cooperative inspectors selected through the PSC at Nabanna.

Earlier in the day, Adhikari announced recruitment for around 7,200 permanent and 1,000 contractual posts in the Panchayat department to address its manpower shortage. He said a special Assembly session would be convened to facilitate the recruitment process.

CM stated the recruitment to permanent posts would be conducted through the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) and completed by April 2027.

To facilitate the process, the government will amend the existing recruitment rules during a special Assembly session after Diwali. Around 1,000 contractual employees will initially be appointed for a period of one year to meet the department's immediate requirements.

At Nabanna Sabhaghar, while handing over appointment letters to newly recruited cooperative inspectors, Adhikari said the government was committed to completing the recruitment process transparently and strictly on merit, without political interference. He also took a dig at the previous Trinamool government, accusing it of damaging the careers of 26,000 teachers.

"Of the 63,496 approved recruitments, 7,838 are for regular permanent posts, while 33,409 vacancies will be filled in the education sector, including teachers and school staff," he said.

"Another 12,147 appointments are planned in the police and Home departments, and 7,119 in Gram Panchayats and other Panchayat bodies," he stated.

The government has also issued appointment letters to 10,233 police constables. A further 5,409 posts will be filled in Kolkata Police and the state police.

He said the Seventh Pay Commission report was expected within this financial year and would be implemented thereafter.

Meanwhile, speaking at a Press conference at Nabanna on Wednesday night, Adhikari said police had recovered over Rs 1 crore from a party office allegedly belonging to the head of the former Chief Minister's family.

He alleged that the family had siphoned off money from coal, sand and cattle trades and stashed it at various places.

The seized amount, he claimed, was mere peanuts for them, possibly equivalent to a day's earnings, which was why they had forgotten about it.

In response, MP Abhishek Banerjee wrote on X: "The deliberate planting of fake and fabricated evidence at a property vandalised six months ago by BJP goons, which subsequently became a scene of crime under police investigation, is a brazen attempt to subvert justice, manipulate the investigation and misuse the machinery of law.

Let this be an unequivocal warning to those orchestrating this sinister conspiracy and those acting at their behest: You will be held personally accountable for every act of fabrication, manipulation and abuse of authority.

Do not mistake political patronage, official position or the misuse of police powers for immunity from prosecution.

The law will catch up with every individual involved, regardless of rank, position or political affiliation. Prepare yourselves to face the full force of the law. There will be no compromise, no retreat and no escape from legal accountability."

Adhikari also stated that all land allegedly grabbed by Shahjahan and Jahangir would be recovered and returned to the poor.

He alleged that the massArt scam took place with the former Chief Minister's permission and patronage extended to Indranil Sen.

The Chief Minister also said 20 per cent of the DA had been released in October, with the remaining amount to be paid by November 30. He added that the Indu Malhotra committee would visit Kolkata on December 14.
