Jalpaiguri, Sept. 14 -- The four Class X students arrested for allegedly assaulting the headmaster of Jalpaiguri Zilla High School were granted interim bail by the Juvenile Justice Board on Monday. However, the Board directed them to undergo counselling for the next two months.
The students will attend counselling continuously for seven days from Tuesday and thereafter once every seven days for two months.
The students had allegedly assaulted headmaster Dharma Chand Barui last Tuesday following an argument over a special meal organised at the school to mark Teachers' Day. They allegedly assaulted the headmaster and pushed him to the ground.
The arrests were made even after Education Minister Deepak Barman visited the school and directed that the students be issued transfer certificates (TCs).
Public prosecutor Shanta Chatterjee said: "A student cannot be issued a TC and then arrested for the same offence. Moreover, no student has been named in the FIR. Therefore, the judge granted them interim bail."
