Siliguri, May 14 -- Tension erupted at North Bengal Medical College premises during a protest against alleged corruption and question paper leaks in the NEET-UG examination, with All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) accusing BJP of attacking its activists and supporters on Wednesday evening.
According to AIDSO, widespread corruption, question paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET-UG examination have put the future of lakhs of students across the country at risk. In protest against the alleged irregularities and demanding the abolition of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the organisation staged a demonstration inside the medical college campus.
The organisation alleged that during the protest, BJP supporters stopped the protest and attacked the demonstrators. A video also went viral on social media of the attack. AIDSO claimed that the incident was part of a broader attempt to suppress voices protesting against corruption in national-level examinations.
Demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the incident, the AIDSO has lodged a written complaint against the incident at Medical Out Post and also called upon democratic and student organisations to unite against corruption in NEET-UG and against what it described as "campus terror and occupation politics."
Dr Hiranmoy Roy, a DSO leader, said: "BJP workers attacked us during the protest inside the medical campus. We have filed a complaint against them and demand strict punishment for the culprits."
However, the BJP denied the allegations. Pradip Debnath, president of the BJP North Bengal Medical Mandal, claimed that objectionable remarks were made against the Prime Minister during the rally.
"Our boys tried to stop them when they used objectionable words to the Prime Minister. At that time, AIDSO members assaulted our workers," he alleged.
