Kolkata, Oct. 13 -- The Bengal government has appointed new presidents to the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) and the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE), constituting ad hoc committees for both bodies five months after their previous presidents resigned.

Rabi Ranjan Sen, associate professor at Katwa College, has been appointed president of the WBBPE committee, while Lalu Das, dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, will head the WBBSE committee. Niladri Sekhar Singha, assistant professor at Hingalganj Mahavidyalaya in North 24-Parganas, has been appointed secretary of the WBBSE. The School Education department issued the notifications on Tuesday.

The appointments follow a May 11 directive from the Home and Hill Affairs department asking departments to end the tenures of nominated members, directors and chairpersons of boards, organisations, non-statutory bodies and public sector undertakings.

It also covered officials serving on re-employment or extensions beyond the retirement age of 60. Following the directive, then WBBPE president Goutam Pal and WBBSE president Ramanuj Ganguly resigned from their posts.

The 13-member WBBPE committee will function for one year from the date of the notification. The 12-member WBBSE committee will remain in office until October 12, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
