India, Aug. 11 -- Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Monday referred garbage management and stray cattle on city roads to the Assembly's Special Committee on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), directing the civic body to submit detailed Action Taken Reports. The move followed concerns raised by MLAs Anil Goyal and Harish Khurana over garbage-prone areas, open dustbins, inadequate waste collection and cattle roaming on roads. Gupta directed the MCD Commissioner to appear before the committee and explain corrective measures, including scrutiny of underperforming waste collection concessionaires and steps to strengthen sanitation and waste collection across the city. Calling the stray cattle issue "alarming", Gupta sought details on Delhi's gaushalas, their capacity, arrangements for rescued cattle, the impounding process and action against those abandoning cattle on public roads. He also stressed the need for prompt measures to protect public safety and animal welfare.
