India, May 2 -- Emphasising urgent action on urban water conservation, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Friday inaugurated a rainwater harvesting project in Rohtas Nagar, calling it a critical step towards securing the city's water future. Addressing the inaugural event at the Delhi Jal Board store near Loni Road, Gupta said, "A city that allows its rainwater to drain away cannot secure its future. Every drop must be captured, conserved and returned to the ground." The project was launched in the presence of Labour Minister Kapil Mishra and local MLA Jitender Mahajan, and is aimed at improving groundwater recharge and promoting sustainable urban water management. He noted that rainwater, often wasted, can become a reliable resource if systematically harnessed. Calling the initiative a model for replication, the Speaker praised local efforts and said such projects can significantly contribute to long-term environmental sustainability and water resilience in the Capital. He also urged citizens to adopt rainwater harvesting practices at homes and institutions, stressing the need for collective responsibility. "Inaction today will impose a serious cost on future generations," he warned, appealing especially to the youth to lead awareness efforts.
