India, July 28 -- Delhi Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly duping a woman of more than Rs 1.16 lakh in an online jewellery scam through a fake social media advertisement. The accused, Ankit Thakur, a resident of Palwal in Haryana, was arrested after investigators traced the money trail. Police recovered a mobile phone and SIM card allegedly used in the fraud. According to police, the woman transferred the money through multiple UPI transactions on February 14 after being assured the jewellery would be delivered. The jewellery was never delivered. Police alleged Thakur received around 10 per cent of the cheated amount, while efforts are underway to arrest his associate and identify other members of the cyber fraud syndicate.
