Siliguri, July 30 -- Police have arrested Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) leader Saurav Bhaskar, alias "Murder", in connection with the clash between TMCP and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during the admission process at Siliguri College.
The violence broke out on May 25 over the setting up of help desks to assist new students during admissions. Members of both student organisations allegedly engaged in a heated argument that escalated into a physical clash, leaving two students injured. Following the incident, ABVP lodged a complaint at Siliguri Police Station, accusing TMCP activists of assault.
Police had earlier arrested TMCP leader Biswajit Sarkar.
Bhaskar, a former general secretary of Siliguri Commerce College, had previously faced assault allegations during a Saraswati Puja-related clash between students of Siliguri Commerce College and Siliguri Day College last year.
He was produced before the Siliguri court on Thursday, where angry protesters hurled eggs at him. Police said the investigation is ongoing.Mpost
