Siliguri, April 19 -- Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, intensified security measures across the city have led to the recovery of approximately Rs 1.71 lakh in cash during a naka checking operation.

The recovery was made on Saturday night at the Fulbari Bypass More, where routine checking was being conducted. According to sources, a joint team comprising Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), the Election Commission's Static Surveillance Team (SST), and police personnel from New Jalpaiguri Police Station intercepted a vehicle coming from Siliguri.

Upon searching the vehicle, officials recovered approximately Rs 1.71 lakh in cash, neatly bundled and kept inside the trunk. A person who was inside the car was detained for further inquiry along with the vehicle.

Police officials stated that an investigation is underway to determine the source of the recovered cash and whether it has any connection with election-related activities.
