Siliguri, May 24 -- The first day of BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh's public outreach initiative, "Sorashori Shankar" (Direct with Shankar), witnessed a huge turnout as people from across the state arrived in Siliguri to submit their grievances. The programme was organised at Baghajatin Park on Sunday.

People travelled from districts including Malda, Farakka, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar to seek assistance regarding unresolved issues. Many claimed that this was the first time they had received direct access to a public representative to raise complaints.

Individuals from various professions, including teachers, police personnel and ordinary citizens, attended the programme alleging that they had been deprived of justice under the previous administration. Several claimed that despite approaching multiple departments and officials over the years, their issues remained unresolved.

Kaushik Acharya, a teacher from Cooch Behar and a 2016 SSC candidate said: "I did not fall under the categories mentioned in the Supreme Court's observations regarding recruitment irregularities.

But I also have to face the consequences. I am hopeful that our concerns will now reach higher authorities."

Subhashis Manna from Farakka alleged that despite not being involved in any irregularities, he lost his job linked to the 2016 recruitment panel. He said assurances had been given earlier that deserving candidates would receive employment, and therefore he had approached the MLA to seek intervention.

Local resident Subarna Saha alleged that her family's land was illegally occupied and claimed previous complaints had yielded no result. A police personnel, Nandita Majumdar, also alleged financial fraud related to land and claimed her complaint was not accepted earlier.

Responding to the grievances, MLA Shankar Ghosh said: "People had been denied justice over the past 15 years. Matters related to education would be conveyed to the Chief Minister. Other issues also have been recorded. I will try to resolve the issues at the earliest."
