Siliguri, Aug. 27 -- A joint enforcement drive at several shops near Gate Bazar in Siliguri led to the seizure of expired baby food, medicines and other products on Thursday. A case has been registered against one of the shops, which was subsequently sealed pending further investigation.
The joint operation was conducted by officials of New Jalpaiguri Police Station, the Agriculture Department, Food Department and other concerned authorities. ACP Ahitagni Chakraborty, NJP Police Station IC Ranjan Das, the OC of the plainclothes police of NJP and other personnel were present during the raid.
According to officials, the action followed a customer noticing that a packet of baby food purchased from one of the shops had expired. Authorities then inspected the shop and found several expired products, including baby food and medicines. The items were seized and a case was registered against the shop.
Similar inspections were also carried out at several other shops.
