New Delhi, Sept. 20 -- Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen's victory in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) vice-presidential election led to celebrations in Peeragarhi on Sunday, with his family members and villagers assembling to mark his win. Shokeen secured 30,615 votes to defeat his nearest rival, ABVP's Ishu Maurya, by a margin of 13,705 votes. He was the only independent candidate to win one of the four central panel posts this year. At Peeragarhi, family members and villagers celebrated Shokeen's victory with dancing and fireworks.
Shokeen's grandmother said the family was happy that he had won and that students had encouraged him to contest and take up their issues.
