New Delhi, Sept. 22 -- A Delhi court on Tuesday granted seven days' interim bail to student activist Sharjeel Imam to attend the weddings of his two cousins in Delhi and Bihar.
Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai allowed the plea, noting that it was Imam's second application for interim bail and was sought to attend his cousins' weddings.
The court granted bail from October 4 to 10 on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one surety of the same amount.
Imam's cousins, Danish Imam and Fahad Imam, are scheduled to marry on October 4 in New Delhi and October 7 in
Sasaram, Bihar.
Pre-wedding ceremonies are scheduled at the family residence in Kako, Jehanabad, from October 1 to 3.
Delhi Police opposed the plea, citing the seriousness of the allegations and previous rejection of his regular bail pleas.
The court directed Imam not to contact witnesses or persons connected with the case, use social media or interact with media persons. He must surrender before the jail superintendent on October 10.
