Kolkata, May 25 -- Cops of Detective Department of the Kolkata Police have rescued three Nepali women from a red-light area in Kolkata who were brought to the city on the pretext of providing jobs and subsequently forced into the sex trade.

During a raid at the red-light area under jurisdiction of Burtolla police station commonly known as Sonagachi police have arrested a woman as well.

According to sources, a few days ago, cops were tipped off that three women from Nepal were brought to Sonagachi and allegedly confined at a house there. Acting on the tip off, on Sunday evening, cops of Kolkata Police Detective Department conducted a raid at the said house where the three Nepali women were allegedly kept confined.

During the search operations, police rescued the three trafficked women and also arrested the owner of the house identified as Shobha Tamang. Police have contacted the Nepal Consulate to identify the address of the rescued women and steps are being taken to arrange safe return of them.

Meanwhile, Tamang is getting grilled to find out the others involved in the trafficking racket.
