Raiganj, Sept. 3 -- The district administration has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on four filled-up ponds in Raiganj where alleged illegal construction activities had started. Police and municipal workers pasted notices at the sites on Thursday, directing the owners to immediately stop all construction work.
The ponds identified by the administration are the Dhopa Ghat at Ukilpara, Bokshi Ghat near Hospital Road, a pond at West Birnagar and another pond near the Old National Highway in Purba Ukilpara.
The move followed complaints from local residents that several traditional ponds had allegedly been filled up illegally, contributing to severe waterlogging in Raiganj town. Last week, a team led by Raiganj MP Kartik Chandra Paul, MoS Education, Kaushik Chowdhury and District Magistrate S. Avijit Tukaram inspected the filled-up ponds.
