Kolkata, July 30 -- Sealdah DRM Rajeev Saxena on Thursday announced a series of passenger-centric measures, including the opening of a dedicated Central Gate for Mail and Express passengers, to ease congestion and improve access to long-distance platforms at Sealdah Station.
The new gate, which will be operational from Friday, will serve Platforms 11 to 14, primarily used by long-distance trains. Saxena said the dedicated access point will provide wider and hassle-free entry and exit, allowing passengers to reach the prepaid taxi stand directly without passing through crowded suburban sections. A 400-square-metre passenger area has also been created near the gate to facilitate smoother movement.
The DRM announced a revised gate plan to streamline passenger flow. Prafulla Dwar and the North Gate will serve Platforms 1 to 5, Main Gate will cater to Platforms 6 to 10, Central Gate will serve Platforms 11 to 14, and South Gate will remain designated for Platforms 15 to 21.
He also discussed future infrastructure upgradation plans, including dedicated pick-up and drop-off points, a modern airport-style toilet complex, and the upgradation of platform surfaces. Existing toilet facilities will also be renovated soon. The DRM added that Sealdah Division is also exploring the development of an app-based cab pick-up and drop-off point near the Central Gate.
