New Delhi, July 30 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Delhi Police to place on record the standing order that provides for a graded use of force during crowd control situations in connection with the Jantar Mantar protest violence case. The direction came after the petitioners argued before the court that the existing standing orders do not permit the use of metallic pellet guns during protests. The petitioners questioned the use of such force during the Jantar Mantar demonstration and sought judicial scrutiny of the police action. The bench also directed Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital to ensure that all necessary medical treatment is provided to the petitioner who was injured by pellet gun fire, as well as any other person who sustained injuries during the protest.
