New Delhi, Sept. 3 -- A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi water minister Satyendar Jain in a corruption case linked to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
Special Judge Digvinay Singh of Rouse Avenue Courts directed Jain's release on a bail bond of Rs.2 lakh, along with two sureties of the same amount. The court's detailed order is yet to be released. The case was registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) against Jain and five others. The agency had opposed his bail plea, alleging that Jain played a key role in manipulating tenders for sewage treatment plant projects to favour a private company.
According to the ACB, Jain, during his tenure as Delhi's water minister, allegedly worked with senior DJB officials, including former CEO and co-accused Udit Prakash Rai, to alter technical recommendations, project capacity and cost estimates and subsequently tailor tender conditions in favour of Euroteck Environmental Pvt. Ltd. The agency alleged that the process began with a meeting on August 31, 2021, involving Jain, senior DJB officials and representatives of Euroteck. It claimed that a pilot run of the company's proposed technology was to be conducted, with both suspended-media and fixed-media technologies initially considered for the tender.
However, the ACB alleged that the pilot run was never conducted and the final tender permitted only IFAS technology with fixed media, which it claimed favoured Euroteck.
