Chandigarh, July 5 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said the sacrifice of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee strengthened the unity and integrity of the country and his vision was realised with the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a function in Pathankot, Punjab, to mark Mookerjee's 125th birth anniversary, Saini said Mookerjee opposed the permit system for entering Jammu and Kashmir and gave the slogan, "Ek desh mein do vidhan, do pradhan aur do nishan nahin chalenge."

He added that the BJP-led central government fulfilled Mookerjee's dream by revoking Article 370 in August 2019.

Mookerjee expressed serious disagreement with the Liaquat Ali Khan-Jawahar Lal Nehru pact, leading to his resignation from the Union Cabinet. Through this decision, he proved that the nation was more important to him than any position, Saini said. Mookerjee resigned from the Cabinet on April 8, 1950, over disagreements with PM Nehru over a pact with Pakistani PM Liaquat Ali Khan.
