Chandigarh, July 30 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday accused the Congress and INDIA bloc parties of practising double standards, alleging that their public statements are at odds with their actions, particularly on the issue of examination paper leaks.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the concluding ceremony of the 77th state-level Van Mahotsav in Karnal, Saini said the proverb "Hathi ke dant dikhane ke aur, khaane ke aur" aptly describes the Opposition's politics. He alleged that while Congress and its allies make lofty promises, their conduct tells a different story.
Targeting the AAP-led Punjab government over the alleged paper leak issue, Saini termed the situation "extremely unfortunate" and questioned the silence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He claimed Punjab's youth are protesting on the streets over the issue, but neither the state government nor the Congress has shown concern.
Saini alleged that the controversy has exposed the AAP government's failure to protect students' interests, saying it has jeopardised the future of young aspirants and left them feeling betrayed. In contrast, he said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi demonstrated his commitment to safeguarding students by bringing in a stringent anti-paper leak law.
Referring to AAP leader Manish Sisodia's earlier remarks that an education minister should resign if a paper leak occurred under an AAP government, Saini claimed the party was now maintaining silence on the issue.
Drawing a comparison between the Congress and BJP on examination reforms, the Chief Minister said paper leaks were discussed in Parliament as early as 1986 during Congress rule, but no law was enacted. He said the BJP-led Centre introduced the anti-paper leak law in 2024 and that the Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a Bill to further strengthen it with stricter punishments.
