Chandigarh, Sept. 8 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday said women representatives are not merely witnesses to change but its "architects", asserting that their participation in decision-making makes democracy more sensitive, inclusive and accountable.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of the two-day 'She Is a Change Maker' programme organised by the National Commission for Women at Surajkund in Faridabad, Saini said women's participation ensures that the aspirations of families and society reach the centre of decision-making.
Women MLAs and legislative council members from 20 states and two Union Territories participated in the workshop, which covered legislative procedures, leadership, communication, policy-making, innovation and the role of elected representatives.
Highlighting women's role, he said a woman MLA carries not only the expectations of her constituency but also the concerns and aspirations of women. He said Haryana had strengthened women's participation in Panchayati Raj Institutions by providing 50 per cent representation.
