Kolkata, Oct. 14 -- Sabina Yeasmin has resigned as the state women's president of the Democratic Trinamool Congress, citing health and family-related issues.

She has sent her resignation letter to the party's state president, Biplab Mitra, stating that she would continue to work for the organisation as an ordinary party worker.

Yeasmin told reporters she stepped down due to a time crunch to fulfil her responsibilities. Her resignation comes amid political developments following her shift from Mamata All India Trinamool Congress to Ritabrata Banerjee's camp after losing the Assembly election.

Mamata Trinamool had approached the Supreme Court seeking disqualification of 10 MLAs who switched sides to join Ritabrata Banerjee's camp. The party has also submitted a similar written request to the Assembly Speaker through MLA Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay. Yeasmin is among the 10 legislators who have received notices from the Assembly Secretariat in connection with the disqualification proceedings.

Yeasmin had also been summoned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Mothabari incident in Malda, where judicial officers engaged in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls were allegedly attacked and confined. The Supreme Court had entrusted the investigation to the agency.
