Kolkata, Aug. 30 -- The Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized 22.64 kg of suspected cannabis (ganja) from a passenger at Howrah railway station and detained him while he was proceeding towards Platform 8, Eastern Railway said on Sunday.
The passenger, identified as 22-year-old Rabiyal, a native of Cooch Behar and currently residing in north-west Delhi, was intercepted near Platform 8, Pillar 2, after an RPF sniffer dog, Marco, indicated a sky-blue trolley bag he was carrying.
According to the RPF, the seizure was made during a checking operation conducted by the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB), Howrah, in coordination with local RPF personnel, based on source information about the movement of narcotic substances through the station.
A search of the trolley bag in the presence of senior officials and independent witnesses led to the recovery of 11 tape-wrapped packets containing the suspected contraband, weighing 22.64 kg in total. A mobile phone and other personal belongings were also seized.
