Kolkata, Sept. 14 -- The Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction of the TMC on Monday announced Mohammad Ehteshamul Haque and Safiuzzaman Sheikh as its candidates for the October 6 Assembly bypolls in Nandigram and Rejinagar, respectively.
The candidates will file their nominations on September 16 in the presence of faction leaders, Ritabrata said.
He reiterated the faction's claim to the All India Trinamool Congress and said it would contest the bypolls using the party's traditional twin flowers symbol.
Ritabrata also said his faction had wanted Mamata Banerjee to contest from Nandigram and would have withdrawn its candidate in her favour.
TMC MP Dola Sen dismissed the rival nominees, calling the faction the "B-team of the ruling party" and saying Mamata's camp was the principal opposition.
The poll body is yet to decide which faction will retain the party name and symbol, with a decision expected on September 17.
