India, May 19 -- In a significant push towards fuel conservation and sustainable urban mobility, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday led the Delhi Government's "Metro Monday" initiative under the "Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan" campaign by travelling through Delhi Metro and DTC feeder bus services to reach the Delhi Secretariat. Several Ministers, legislators and senior government officials also used public transport during the day in support of the initiative. The campaign has been launched in line with the appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging citizens to adopt fuel conservation measures, promote public transport usage and contribute towards environmental sustainability. Also Read - Heatwave won't let Delhi chill, Orange alert on The Chief Minister commenced her journey by walking from her official residence, Mukhyamantri Jan Seva Sadan in Civil Lines, to Lok Niwas for a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Thereafter, she travelled from Kashmere Gate Metro Station to ITO Metro Station using Delhi Metro services and subsequently reached the Delhi Secretariat through a feeder bus service. Delhi Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh and Ravinder Indraj Singh accompanied the Chief Minister during the journey. Addressing the significance of the initiative, the CM stated, "The 'Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan' campaign is not merely a government initiative, but a movement of public participation." Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh travelled from Vikaspuri to the Delhi Secretariat using Metro services and an electric DTC bus. During the journey, he interacted with commuters and directed officials to address suggestions related to passenger convenience. "The Delhi Government is committed to making public transport more accessible, comfortable and environment-friendly," he said. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also travelled by Metro from Rajouri Garden to Indraprastha Metro Station and thereafter used an EV DEVI bus to reach the Secretariat. "It is our duty to support the appeal made by the Hon'ble Prime Minister. Not only today, but we have also reduced the use of official vehicles," Sirsa stated. He said, "Under the leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government and the people of Delhi are fulfilling the 'Mera Bharat-Mera Yogdan' pledge inspired by the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji." He further stated that Delhi residents, traders and industrialists were actively supporting the campaign through greater use of public transport, work-from-home arrangements, carpooling and electric vehicles. Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh described the campaign as an important step towards responsible citizenship and appealed to residents to increasingly adopt public transport for fuel conservation, traffic management and environmental protection.
