Malda, Oct. 27 -- Malda Zilla Parishad's Agriculture Karmadhyaksha, Rabiul Islam, resigned from his post on Tuesday, alleging that the board was captured unethically by a section of the Democratic Trinamool Congress (DTC) in alliance with BJP members. Islam submitted his resignation to Additional District Magistrate and Zilla Parishad Executive Officer Bhaskar Majumdar.

Explaining his decision, Islam said: "A section of the DTC and the BJP captured the Zilla Parishad unethically on October 6. Under these circumstances, it is no longer possible for me to continue as Karmadhyaksha." He added that he remained committed to Mamata All India Trinamool Congress (MAITC).

On October 6, BJP member Dipali Bala was elected Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati, while TMC's Lipika Barman Ghosh became vice-chairperson. Existing Karmadhyakshas have continued in their respective positions across the nine departments, making Islam the first to resign since the change of leadership.

Congress extended its support to Islam. Zilla Parishad member Sayem Chowdhury said: "Those who feel they cannot work under this board should resign." Bhaskar Majumdar said the resignation would be placed before the general body meeting, where the board would decide whether to accept it.
