Kolkata, Sept. 27 -- The West Bengal Public Service Commission (PSC) has sought the School Education Department's intervention over recurring difficulties in getting teachers to evaluate answer scripts of its competitive examinations within the stipulated time.
Following the request, the Directorate of School Education (DSE) has directed District Inspectors of Schools (Secondary Education) in all districts to ensure that heads of institutions facilitate the evaluation work assigned to PSC-nominated teachers.
The Commission said it regularly engages experienced teachers serving under the School Education Department as examiners for various competitive examinations. However, it has recently been facing recurring difficulties, with some nominated teachers declining assignments or failing to complete the evaluation within the prescribed timeframe without sufficient justification.
The PSC also pointed to instances where heads of institutions did not permit nominated teachers to undertake the evaluation work. In some cases, heads allegedly refused to grant On Duty leave on the dates when teachers had to receive or submit evaluation materials, despite the Commission issuing On Duty Certificates for those dates.
"Such instances of non-cooperation, including occasional discourteous responses, adversely affect the timely completion of the evaluation process and may consequently lead to delay in the declaration of examination results," the PSC said in its letter.
The Commission requested the School Education Department to issue suitable instructions to concerned authorities and heads of institutions to facilitate the participation of nominated teachers and ensure that the assigned work was completed within the prescribed time frame.
Acting on the request, the DSE directed all DIs (SE) to take necessary steps and issue instructions to heads of institutions under their jurisdiction to cooperate with the evaluation process.
