Kolkata, June 29 -- With the BJP government set to roll out the Ayushman Bharat scheme (AB-PMJAY) in Bengal from July 1, many private hospitals in Kolkata are making final preparations for patient enrolment, marking a shift in the state's healthcare landscape.
Once operational, private hospitals will begin enrolling eligible patients. The scheme is expected to bring over 6 crore beneficiaries from the state's Swasthya Sathi scheme under the central health coverage.
The state government has earmarked Rs 3,100 crore for implementing AB-PMJAY for the first time.
The scheme, which provides health coverage of Rs 5 lakh to economically weaker sections, is expected to benefit around 7 crore people in Bengal. All citizens aged above 70 years, irrespective of their financial background, will be able to avail of the scheme.
Impoverished residents who do not meet the standard scheme guidelines will be provided financial assistance directly from the Chief Minister's relief funds.
Eligible new family members, including newly married women and newborns, will also be added to the list of beneficiaries.
The new members can enrol their names online or by visiting their nearest common service centres.
For the online application, the beneficiaries will have to visit the portal: beneficiary.nha.gov.in.
The beneficiaries will have to log in by applying the OTP which will come on their mobile phones.
There will be a new tab called 'new member', and the new applicants will have to fillup their details.
