Cooch Behar, May 11 -- Tension and political controversy gripped Mathabhanga town after several posters carrying allegations against Trinamool youth leader Nayanjyoti Saha surfaced in different parts of the town on Monday morning.
The posters alleged that crores of rupees had been collected from innocent people in the name of providing jobs. The incident quickly triggered widespread discussion among local residents, with many questioning the authenticity and implications of the allegations.
The posters, reportedly carrying the name of the youth Trinamool Congress, also mentioned multiple corruption-related accusations against the leader. However, no individual or organisation has officially claimed responsibility for putting up the posters.
Attempts to contact Nayanjyoti Saha for his response were unsuccessful, as he did not answer phone calls. Sources said he was also not present at his residence at the time.
Reacting to the development, Girindra Nath Barman said that if anyone is found involved in any wrongdoing, the administration will take appropriate action.
Meanwhile, the BJP launched a sharp attack on the TMC over the issue. District BJP General Secretary Manoj Ghosh alleged that people in Mathabhanga had long remained silent out of fear and claimed that common residents were subjected to various forms of harassment.
"People are now finding the courage to speak out and that is why such posters have appeared," he said. The incident has added fresh political heat to the region, with the posters becoming a major topic of discussion across the Mathabhanga town.
