New Delhi, May 25 -- Around 700 NCC cadets attended a gender sensitisation programme organised by the Self Defence Wing of the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) at the DG NCC Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment, with officials emphasising the importance of gender equality, women's safety and responsible social behaviour among young people.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of DCP/SPUWAC Neha Yadav as part of the Delhi Police's ongoing efforts to promote awareness and encourage youth participation in building a safer and more
inclusive society.
Officials said the initiative aimed to sensitise male cadets on issues related to respect for women, prevention of harassment and the need for appropriate conduct in both public and private spaces.
During the interactive session, officers and trainers from the Self Defence Wing engaged with the cadets on various aspects of gender sensitivity and social responsibility.
Participants were educated on the importance of treating women with dignity and respect, understanding consent, and discouraging behaviour that could lead to harassment or discrimination.
Officers also highlighted the role young people can play in shaping social attitudes and creating an environment where women feel safe and empowered. Cadets were encouraged to act responsibly in their daily lives and become ambassadors of gender equality within their communities and institutions.
According to officials, the programme witnessed enthusiastic participation, with many cadets actively interacting with trainers and sharing their views during the session.
SPUWAC officials said such awareness programmes are regularly organised across educational institutions and youth platforms to strengthen public understanding of gender-related issues and promote social harmony.
The Self Defence Wing has been conducting outreach activities aimed at empowering citizens, particularly students and young people, through awareness campaigns, sensitisation drives and self-defence initiatives.
Police officials reiterated that continued engagement with youth is essential for fostering a culture of mutual respect, equality and responsible citizenship, adding that similar programmes would continue as part of SPUWAC's community outreach efforts.
