New Delhi, Nov. 4 -- Police have sought details of the staff members on duty at the Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI) when cancer medication, estimated to be worth around Rs 20,000-30,000 allegedly went missing from the hospital, as part of their ongoing investigation into the case.
Following the registration of an FIR over the alleged theft, police have issued a notice under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), seeking records and details of the personnel who were on duty at the time of the incident. However, the investigating team is still awaiting a response from the hospital, according to a police source. A police source said an inspection of the hospital premises had been carried out as part of the investigation. However, the absence of functional CCTV cameras in the area where the vials went missing has emerged as a hurdle for investigators, as no footage is available from the spot to help establish what happened. Police are also examining the possibility of the involvement of an insider, although the investigation has not established who was responsible for the disappearance. The probe is continuing, and investigators are awaiting the hospital's response to the notice, which could help establish who was present and on duty when the incident took place. When contacted for its response on the matter, DSCI did not provide a comment. The hospital has not issued any statement on the incident so far.
Meanwhile, some cancer patients visiting the hospital said they had not faced difficulties in accessing treatment at the facility. One patient, who said they had been visiting DSCI for the past three years, said they had not encountered any hurdles during their treatment and described the facilities and services as good.
