Greater Noida, Oct. 18 -- Three people, including a man's two sisters and brother-in-law, were arrested on Monday in connection with the deaths of five members of a family at their home in Greater Noida's Rabupura area. Police are investigating a possible property dispute after an audio recording recovered from the man's mobile phone allegedly named the three relatives as responsible for the incident.
The accused have been identified as Sunita, Mahesh's elder sister, her husband Shekhar, and his younger sister Sapna. A case was registered against them on charges of abetment to suicide following a complaint by the brother of Mahesh's wife. The three are being questioned.
Mahesh, 37, his wife Lalita, 35, and their three children - Laddu alias Sakshat, 11, Mishti, 7, and Riyansh, 3 - were found dead inside their house in Nagla Shripadam village on Saturday.
According to police, the audio recording allegedly blamed the three relatives for the situation.
Investigators are examining its contents and questioning the accused to establish the circumstances leading to the deaths.
Police are also probing a possible dispute over the family's house. Information gathered from neighbours and relatives suggests Mahesh had been upset over the transfer of the property to his elder sister.
Mahesh lived in the house with his mother, Chandravati. According to people familiar with the family, Sunita had allegedly got the house transferred into her name from their mother. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the transfer and whether the dispute was connected to the deaths.
The exact cause of the five deaths has not yet been established. A forensic science laboratory team and food safety officials visited the house to collect evidence and examine the scene.
The bodies underwent post-mortem examinations by a panel of doctors, with the entire procedure videographed.
Viscera samples from all five bodies were preserved and sent for forensic testing. The reports are expected to help establish the cause of death.
Police have also examined CCTV footage from cameras installed around the house. Investigators said no outsider was seen entering the premises in the footage examined so far.
Officials said the investigation was continuing and the circumstances surrounding the deaths would become clearer after the forensic reports and further questioning of the accused.
