Kolkata, Sept. 3 -- Police have filed a chargesheet in Baruipur minor rape and murder case on Thursday at the Baruipur Special Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court, exactly 57 days after registration of the FIR.
According to police, in the case where a 12-year-old girl was brutally raped and murdered in Suryapur of Baruipur, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Baruipur District Police submitted a comprehensive 702-page chargesheet against four accused on Thursday.
The investigative document (chargesheet No. 1408/2026), submitted formally, outlines the horrifying chain of events that triggered massive public outrage and unrest along with political face-offs across the South 24-Parganas district. Among the four arrested, the prime accused Prabhas Mondal died in a police encounter during a crime scene reconstruction process.
It was alleged that during the reconstruction process, Mondal snatched the service weapon from a policeman and fired a round while attempting to flee. In retaliation, police also fired multiple rounds, which hit Mondal and subsequently he died.
In the chargesheet, all the accused have been booked on charges of kidnapping, kidnapping or abducting in order to murder or for ransom, gangrape, murder, causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault under the POCSO Act.
