New Delhi, July 5 -- The Delhi Police Cyber Cell has arrested a licensed telecom Point of Sale (PoS) agent for allegedly activating SIM cards illegally by bypassing mandatory KYC and biometric verification and supplying them to cyber fraudsters across the country.

The accused, identified as Shiva, a resident of Siddharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested near Hindu Rao Hospital on July 2. Police said he operated a licensed outlet, Shivam Telecom, from a temporary roadside stall.

The investigation began after intelligence inputs revealed that SIM cards activated by certain PoS agents in Delhi were repeatedly being used in cyber fraud cases nationwide. Police found that 11 SIM cards activated through Shivam Telecom alone were linked to 18 cyber fraud complaints. During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted to using customers' identity documents and biometric credentials to activate additional SIM cards without their knowledge before selling them to cyber criminals. Further investigation is under way to identify other members.
