India, July 3 -- A 20-year-old woman has been arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly strangling her husband to death following a domestic dispute in East Delhi's Rashid Market. The deceased has been identified as Mustakeem alias Sahil (20), while the accused, Alisha (20), is his wife. Both were residents of Rashid Market. The incident came to light in the early hours of Wednesday after a PCR call was received at Jagatpuri Police Station at around 3.52 am, reporting that a woman had allegedly strangled her husband. A police team led by ASI Hemant rushed to the spot and found Mustakeem unconscious. He was taken to Dr Hedgewar Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased's mother, the police registered an FIR under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the investigation was handed over to Inspector Abhishek Kumar Singh.

Investigators examined the crime scene, recorded witness statements and analysed the available evidence. During questioning, Alisha allegedly confessed to the crime. According to the police, the accused told investigators that her husband suspected her of having an extramarital affair and had taken her mobile phone during the night to search for evidence. The argument allegedly escalated into a physical altercation, during which the victim assaulted her. In retaliation, she allegedly sat on his chest and strangled him with her dupatta. Police said the deceased's mother entered the room shortly after the incident, following which the accused fled the house and hid inside a gurdwara in an attempt to evade arrest. She was later apprehended from the religious premises. The dupatta allegedly used in the crime was recovered and seized as the weapon of offence. Officials said prompt police action, forensic examination of the scene and sustained interrogation enabled the case to be solved within hours. Further investigation is underway.
