Kolkata, April 19 -- The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday arrested businessman Joy Kamdar, managing director of Sun Constructions Pvt Ltd, in connection with an alleged money laundering case involving notorious criminal Biswajit Poddar alias Sona Pappu.

The central agency also conducted a raid at the residence of Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shantanu Sinha Biswas on Fern Road in the Ballygunge area. The search was continuing till the time of filing this report.

According to sources, two ED teams reached Kamdar's residence in Behala and Sinha Biswas's residence in Ballygunge early on Sunday. Officials reportedly had to wait for a considerable time before gaining entry into Kamdar's house as there was no

response initially.

Kamdar was detained around 11 am and taken to the CGO Complex in Salt Lake. He was formally arrested

at around 5 pm.

Sources said Kamdar is involved in business promotion. His premises had been searched earlier as well, during which a substantial amount of cash was recovered. The ED had subsequently summoned him twice, but he did not appear. On Sunday, while being taken for a medical check-up to ESI Hospital in Joka, Kamdar reportedly felt unwell. The ED team then diverted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for his treatment.

During the raid at Sinha Biswas's residence, his son was taken to a coaching centre in the Park Street area.

There, he reportedly alleged that the action was part of a conspiracy by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. The ED also searched another property linked to the officer. Following earlier raids, the ED had summoned both Kamdar and Sona Pappu, but neither appeared before the agency.
