Kolkata, Sept. 9 -- State Labour minister Arjun Singh on Wednesday directed all jute mills in Bengal to pay workers' bonus by the end of September, ahead of Durga Puja, while assuring trade unions that wage revision and a fresh industry-wide settlement would be discussed after the festival.
The meeting, attended by representatives of 23 major trade unions, the Jute Commissioner's Office, Jute Corporation of India, Indian Jute Mills Association and mill managements, also discussed keeping mills operational.
Singh said the Centre had agreed to involve a state labour department official in jute-related matters handled by central agencies.
He proposed a stakeholders' task force and said he would lead a delegation to the Union textiles ministry to restore all jute mills to full capacity.
