India, Aug. 27 -- More than 72 roads were blocked across Uttarakhand on Wednesday after landslides and boulder falls disrupted connectivity in several parts of the state, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of thunderstorms, lightning and intense spells of rain at isolated places over the next few days. Several areas received light to moderate rainfall, with Pithoragarh, Nainital and Chamoli among the worst-affected districts. The three districts reported 14, 12 and 10 road closures, respectively. The road blockages were caused by landslides, falling boulders and debris, affecting movement across several mountainous areas. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and intense spells of rainfall at isolated locations in Uttarakhand in the coming days. The weather conditions could further affect road connectivity in the hilly state, where several routes remain vulnerable to landslides and falling debris. Authorities are monitoring the situation as efforts continue to clear blocked roads and restore connectivity in affected areas.
