India, May 19 -- Over 63,000 households and roughly 2.5 lakh persons were enumerated in the Lytuens Delhi and Cantt areas during the ongoing Census 2027 exercise, officials said on Monday. Under the Houselisting and Housing Operation phase of the Census, which was conducted from April 16 to May 15, enumerators reached out to over 63,000 households in NDMC and Delhi Cantt areas, covering around 2.5 lakh population. More concrete data will emerge after completion of the second phase, they said. The houselisting exercise was preceded by a self-enumeration phase on April 1-15 in which a few thousand people completed their household details. Census officials said that the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has a far larger floating population of around 10 lakh. Also Read - Heatwave won't let Delhi chill, Orange alert on Currently, the houselisting exercise is underway in 250 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), comprising the rest of the city. In the self-enumeration phase from May 1-15, 1.34 lakh persons submitted Census details online. Under the houselisting phase, around 50,000 enumerators will visit households in MCD wards, covering more than 46,000 houselisting blocks. The enumerators are carrying out a ground truthing exercise to check the maps provided to them. There are around 30-32 lakh houses in MCD areas. The wards have been mapped into around 46,000 houselisting blocks, each comprising 180-200 houses, an official tasked with Census work said. Census 2027 is underway in the country. The 16th census exercise is completely digital and will be completed in two phases. The Houselisting and Housing operations will continue in different parts of the country up to September. The second and final phase of population enumeration is scheduled for February 2027.
