Kolkata, Sept. 15 -- More than 50,000 people have received hospital care and treatment, with essential treatments under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY) scheme in Bengal in the past month following its rollout.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, after coming to power, said his government will strengthen public healthcare infrastructure. As many as 1,102 people in Bengal have availed the scheme's benefits in other states, while local facilities in West Bengal treated 1,849 patients from other states. The Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme delivered over Rs 28 crore worth of medical care in West Bengal during its first month following its rollout on August 16.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari shared the data on his social media handle on Monday. "Pleased to share a significant milestone in our collective mission to ensure accessible, dignified and quality healthcare for every citizen, especially the underprivileged across West Bengal.
Today marks exactly one month since the rollout of the ABPMJAY in our state on August 16, 2026, and the impact has already reached tens of thousands of families," Adhikari wrote in an X post.
"Upholding our commitment to universal care, West Bengal's healthcare facilities treated 1,849 patients from other states during this period," the post further read. "Health is a fundamental right. Our govt remains steadfast in strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, easing medical costs for families in need and ensuring that no one is left behind," he posted.
The Chief Minister also thanked doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and administrators for their work in achieving the milestone. Adhikari had earlier expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's blessings for the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana rollout in the state and said that the "double-engine government" is committed to ensuring the healthcare initiative reaches everyone.
