India, June 25 -- Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Wednesday reviewed the ongoing bio-remediation and waste management operations at the Okhla landfill site and said that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was moving steadily towards eliminating the landfill within the stipulated timeline. During his visit, MCD officials briefed the Mayor on the status of bio-mining activities and measures being undertaken to process accumulated waste at the site. Senior officials, including MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, Additional Commissioner Dr. Satendra Singh Dursawat and Engineer-in-Chief P.C. Meena, were present during the inspection. Expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved so far, Wahi said that nearly 23 acres of land at the Okhla landfill site have already been cleared of waste, marking a significant milestone in the city's landfill remediation efforts. He added that fresh waste reaching the site would continue to be processed systematically, with the objective of ensuring complete disposal by December 2026. Wahi also noted that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is personally monitoring bio-mining operations across landfill sites in the Capital. He said that MCD personnel and machinery were working continuously to ensure timely completion of the project and fulfil the broader objective of making Delhi cleaner and reducing environmental burden caused by landfill waste.
