Alipurduar, Sept. 14 -- A day ahead of the Alipurduar District Court Bar Association election, minister of state for Law Biraj Biswas on Monday announced that steps would soon be taken to extend the benefits of the West Bengal Advocates' Welfare Fund to lawyers in North Bengal. He also assured financial assistance for junior lawyers and said the new infrastructure at the Alipurduar District Court would be inaugurated soon.
Biswas visited Alipurduar and held a meeting with BJP leaders and lawyers to discuss issues faced by the legal fraternity and the need for infrastructure development at the court.
District BJP president Mithu Das, MLA Paritosh Das, other party leaders and lawyers attended the meeting.
Addressing a press conference, Biswas said: "North Bengal lawyers have so far been deprived of the benefits available under the West Bengal Advocates' Welfare Fund. Steps will now be taken to ensure that they also receive the benefits of the fund."
He said financial assistance for junior lawyers would also be introduced soon under the leadership of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Later, Biswas visited the district court, interacted with junior lawyers and reviewed the infrastructure.
He said the remaining work would be completed soon and the new facilities inaugurated at the earliest. His visit, coming ahead of Tuesday's election, has added to the political buzz in Alipurduar.
