Noida, Nov. 1 -- A man with over 20 criminal cases against him, including murder, robbery and extortion, was killed in an exchange of fire with police in Sector 126 late on Saturday night. Two policemen sustained bullet injuries during the encounter.
The deceased was identified as Aman Tyagi, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest. He was wanted in an attempt-to-murder case registered at Badalpur police station in Greater Noida.
According to police, a joint team was conducting checks in the Sector 126 area when it spotted a motorcycle-borne suspect. When personnel signalled him to stop, he allegedly tried to
escape and opened fire at the team. Police retaliated, triggering an exchange of gunfire in which Tyagi and two policemen were injured.
The injured suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The two injured personnel, identified as sub-inspector Narendra and constable Dheeraj, suffered bullet wounds in their legs and are undergoing treatment.
DCP (Noida) Preeti Yadav said Tyagi was wanted in a case registered under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 126 (wrongful restraint) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced for his arrest.
Police records indicate that over 20 cases were registered against Tyagi in Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad and Muzaffarnagar between 2012 and 2026. His alleged criminal activities included murder, robbery and extortion. He was also booked under the Gangsters Act.
In 2019, Tyagi was arrested in Noida after an earlier exchange of fire with police. He was subsequently released on bail but allegedly returned to criminal activities.
Police also claimed that Tyagi was associated with a gang operating in Greater Noida. Members of the gang were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2023 for the 2013 murder of a political party functionary.
