New Delhi, Aug. 24 -- International travellers will be able to use e-boarding passes displayed on their smartphones during immigration clearance at Indian airports from September 1, the Bureau of Immigration (BoI) said on Monday. The move will end the practice of physically stamping boarding passes during immigration checks.
In an advisory posted on X, the Ministry of Home Affairs-controlled agency said the change would mean "less paper, fewer steps and smoother travel".
The BoI said travellers enrolled under the Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Program (FTI-TTP) will also be able to use e-boarding passes at immigration e-gates.
"Boarding passes will no longer be stamped during immigration clearance," the agency said, while clarifying that physical boarding passes will continue to be accepted.
A senior officer involved in airport security said the digital system will also remove the requirement for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to stamp boarding passes before passengers board their flights.
The change is part of the BoI's move towards a paper-free process for international air travellers, allowing passengers to complete the required checks using digital boarding passes on their mobile devices.
